Old Town Hall Cottage - 4 Star (Gold Award) Holiday Cottage in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Built around 1610

2 Bedrooms    1 Bathroom    Sleeps 4    Children Welcome    Some Pets Allowed    No Smoking

Old Town Hall Cottage is in the historic hamlet of Old Town, only one mile from Hebden Bridge. The cottage is comfortably appointed, accomodates 4 people and was built around 1610, originally part of Old Town Hall - the house owned by the lord of the manor of Old Town.  There is reputed to have been a previous timber framed building on the same site dating back to the 1400's, according to records held by Halifax Antiquarian Society.  It provides discerning guests with a high standard Hebden Bridge holiday home.

The cottage has been recently renovated by it's current owners, to restore many original features such as the original stone fireplace, mullion windows and lovely oak beams. The accommodation provides:Entrance porch with terracotta tiled floor and original stonework, leading into: Lounge of generous proportions (16ft square), which is fully carpeted, tastefully decorated in keeping with the period and comfortably furnished with two settees, lamps, occasional tables, plants and ornaments.   Included are modern TV with Sky, DVD player, music system, including tape, CD and radio. A selection of books, CD's, DVD's and games are available within the cottage for guest use. The original stone fireplace now houses a wood burning stove (gas fuelled) which gives a warm cosy feel to the room. The lounge also has exposed stone mullion windows and original oak beams, making it ideal for that romantic winter weekend away.

Dining kitchen - fully fitted with electric cooker, fridge freezer, washing machine, microwave, toaster and extractor fan. There is ample cupboard and storage space, dining table and 4 chairs with terracotta tiled floor. The kitchen is fully equiped with all cooking utensils, crockery, glassware, cutlery etc.  We provide everything you should need even down to washing up liquid, aluminium foil, cling film, washing powder etc. etc.

Feature open staircase leading from the lounge to a small landing area. Bright and airy bathroom with three piece suite, recently retiled, modern Mira electric shower over the bath, large airing cupboard with storage shelves, tiled floor and bath surround, pleasant and secluded outlook over the surrounding countryside. Double bedroom - with double divan bed (4 drawers in the divan base for storage of extra pillows etc.), dressing table, buffet and mirror, ample fitted wardrobes with full length mirror and drawer space. Hairdryer and shaver plug adaptor also provided.

The double bedroom is tastefully decorated with co-ordinated bedding and soft furnishings and has bedside cupboard, lamps and rugs. Mullion window with countryside views, exposed stonework, original oak beam and floorboards. Bedroom 2 - with adult bunk beds, chest of drawers, original oak beam and mullion window. All services, linen and towels are included in the hire charge so there is nothing extra to pay. Fresh fruit, flowers, a welcome food pack and complimentary toiletries are also included. We really do try to make it a home from home which is why you will find that so many guests have commented on the comfortable feeling the minute they walk through the door.

The property has full gas central heating which is controllable by guests, constant hot water provided by the central heating or immersion heater also if necessary.  There are many free standing lamps and candles as well as the fixed lighting so that guests can create the mood appropriate to their wishes.

Outside there is a small cottage garden with a variety of rhodedendrons, azaleas, hydrangea, camelia etc. which provide a wealth of colour throughout the spring, summer & autumn. Hanging baskets and a multitude of flower tubs complete the exterior of this pretty country cottage.  There is also a sunny patio area with table and chairs and private parking for two cars.

This Hebden Bridge Cottage has consistently been awarded 4 star rating by the English Tourist Board for it's high standard of accomodation.

The village has a post office and shop which sells virtually everything one can think of (a real Alladins Cave!) and two local pubs both serving real ale and pub grub with quiz nights (Thursdays), both are within strolling distance of the cottage.  There are regular buses to and from Hebden Bridge the journey taking approximately 10 minutes, or the local taxi firm provides a very reasonably priced alternative.

There are a wealth of places to visit all within easy reach of the cottage.  Hebden Bridge is a very cosmopolitan town with very individual shops, a multitude of eating places (including Thai, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Greek, French or just good old fashioned Yorkshire grub!), lovely cafe culture, endless coffee shops including Fair Trade, Vegetarian & Organic outlets.  Haworth is just 15 minutes over the hill from Old Town either by car or local bus, the home of the Bronte sisters and the Keighley and Worth Valley steam railway.  There are lovely walks down into the National Trust area of Hardcastle Craggs which has miles of river and forrest walks, not to mention the recently restored Gibson Mill which has won many awards and runs totally on renewable energy.  We are just a stones throw away from the Pennine Way and the Calderdale Way which afford excellent walking for the more serious walker.
Just eight miles away is the town of Halifax with it's Eureka childrens museum, the Piece Hall and Shibden Hall to name but a few of it's attractions.
A little further afield but easily accessible by train are the cities of Bradford - famous for the Alhambra Theatre, the National Museum of Film and Photography and of course it's wealth of curry houses, Leeds - the up and coming commercial centre of Yorkshire and for it's excellent shopping and market, York - the National Railway Museum, York Minster, the Shambles, Yorvik Viking experience, Manchester - a number of top theatres, restaurants, shops & interesting buildings.  The picturesque villages of the Yorkshire Dales are also on the doorstep e.g. Skipton, Grassington, Burnsall, etc. all within an hours drive for day trips in the car and provide excellent walking experiences.
