Your chance to stay a week in Edwardian luxury in the birthplace of the famous poet and writer Dylan Thomas.
5 Cwmdonkin Drive has been restored to its condition as a new house when bought by the Thomas family in 1914 just a few months before Dylan was born in the front bedroom. Dylan lived in the house for over 20 years and wrote over 2/3rds of his published work in the hoiuse that is featured in many of his stories.
A Swansea couple have spent three years on the restoration and it will be used as a self catering experiential house. It was opened on 27th October 2008 which was Dylan's 94th birthday and its new life started from that date. So if, for example, you book for 15th August 2008 you will enter the house on 15th August 1915! You will be greeted by a newspaper of the day but no TV, radio of telephone - there is, however, discreet central heating, a pantry and a modern gas cooker.
This is a house that looks like a brand new 1914 house with bright paintwork and furnishings not a 100 year old dreary place with tired furniture.
People who have stayed have loved the peace and tranquilty that the house brings - as well as the chance to read pre-1914 books in Dylan's father's study or play old 78 records on the phonogram.
It is also an opportunity to visit many places locally that inspired Dylan including Cwmdonkin Park, Swansea, Mumbles and the Gower Peninsula
