The Old House Cottage is situated at Nant Y Brenni - once a substantial Welsh farm - now an 11 acre smallholding that is home to our small flock of sheep, Guinevre the goat, and assorted ducks, geese and chickens. We also have two border collies and, at present, four cats. All live outside!
This cosy cottage (converted from the undated original Farmhouse c17th century) is luxuriously appointed - hence the 5 star (maximum) grading from Wales Tourist Board.
Imagine how you can spend your days ...
- walking through fantastic countryside or along the coastal path, or
- spend the day on the local award winning beaches, with the hope of sighting the wild Bottle Nose dolphins and Atlantic Grey seals, that live in Cardigan Bay, or
- enjoy the sand, sea and sun - plus fresh water streams and waterfalls that pass through the beaches
- for those wanting a more adventurous time there are lots of activites available nearby including riding, fishing, quad biking, canoeing - just too many things to do to mention here!
- For those wanting Theme Parks there are several to delight ... Folly Farm is great for kids and includes an all-weather traditional fairground (Yes ... it's undercover!) or Oakwood Theme Park with some of the most exciting rides in Europe!
- If you prefer culture and history we can advise on lots of places to visit.
There's so much to see and do it's impossible to list it all here ... just let us know your interest and we'll do our best to advise you.
At the enjoy of the day return to your delightful cottage for a relaxing whirlpool bath. Then toast your toes in front of your log fire in the evening ... or in the summer enjoy a barbeque while the sun sets. At all times of year enjoy the fantastically starry night skys!
Children are welcome to help feed the friendly animals.

Beaches. Cardigan Bay was the first Marine Heritage Coast in the UK, and is home to resident bottle-nose dolphins, grey seals and porpoise. The bay offers award-winning sandy beaches at Tresaith (European Blue Flag), Llangrannog and Penbryn (Green Flag) - all within easy reach being just 4 miles away.
At the beginning of February 2004 Orca Whales (Killer Whales) and Risso's Dolphins were sighted in Cardigan Bay. An exciting but rare occurrence! Our bottle-nose Dolphins are resident and therefore you may see them at any time of year. Plus harbour porpoises. And occasionally Leatherback turtles - the largest marine reptile in the world. |

Bird Watching
We are in a prime location for bird watching in the countryside and along the coast.
A Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Society (RSPB) survey lasting just a few hours over a couple of days revealed numerous species of birds in and around Nant Y Brenni.
Feathered visitors include red kites, merlin, goshawks, buzzards and a whole range of smaller birds from gold finches to gold crests, long-tailed tits, blue tits, great tits and coal tits; in the wooded areas you may also spot nuthatches, tree-creepers and a variety of wood peckers. Plus all the sparrows - tree, house and hedge! Many sparrows are becoming rare.
Red Kites visit our fields - especially when we cut the hay. But they also visit the area at other times. You may spot one when driving around the area ... it's pot-luck ... but we can tell you where you are more likely to see them flying around. There is a Red Kite feeding centres near Aberystwyth ... but we don't agree with this concept ... you are just as likely to see them flying around as visiting a feeding centre! We can tell you how to differentiate between spotting a buzzard and a Red Kite.
Visit the coast to see numerous sea birds, grey seals, harbour porpoises, bottle nose dolphins, leatherback turtles - and if you have your binoculars you may spot passing whales.
