In November 2004 we featured as one of the Guardian newspaper's twenty five favourite B and B's as recommended by their readers. We provide comfortable, relaxing bed and breakfast accomodation at the foot of the castle keep next to the River Honddu.The house is a grade two listed building dating from 1862 when it was originally built as the headquarters of the Brecon and Monmouth Railway. Extensively refurbished, Castle House offers four comfortable double en-suite rooms. The bedrooms all have TV, radio alarm clock and tea and coffee making facilities. The house is centrally heated with radiators in every bedroom. There is a wood burning stove in the lounge/dining room, making it a great place to relax during the day or enjoy a drink in the evening. Private parking is available.Brecon is a pleasant market town located at the heart of the Beacons National Park. It has a full range of shops and services, including a public library, a museum, a theatre, a cinema, a leisure centre and a large number of pubs and restaurants. The area is one of outstanding natural beauty. There are fantastic local walks including the dramatic ridge of the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and Offa's Dyke. A wide variety of outdoor activities such as canoeing, horse riding, sailing and cycling can be arranged locally.Brecon is world famous for its annual Jazz Festival. The town's Georgian Festival takes place in the Autumn. Other local events include the Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells and the Hay Literary Festival. There are frequent farmer's markets, antique and craft fairs and numerous other events throughout the year.Brecon is on the main A40 trunk road making access by road easy. Cardiff and Bristol are both an hour away and London about three hours away by road. The nearest railway station is at Abergavenny.
