Gwenoldy (meaning Swallows' Rest or House) is a luxurious two-bedroomed cottage, converted from an 18th century stone barn situated beside the 16th century former farmhouse of Coed y Mynydd Isaf. Swallows nest in the Grade II listed farm buildings opposite the cottage and gather in the skies above in the autumn before migrating for the winter.
The cottage has been sympathetically converted to provide exceptionally comfortable living. There is an oil-fired hot water and central heating system, and the rooms have oak floors and lime-washed walls. The kitchen/dining area is superbly equipped, and the sitting room offers comfortable furniture and a full range of entertainment equipment. Upstairs there is a double-bedded room and a twin-bedded room, with plenty of storage for clothes and marvellous views. The bathroom has a bath with shower, basin, WC, shaver point and heated towel rail. There is a private garden with barbecue.
Gwenoldy is located in a particularly beautiful and tranquil part of the Clwydian Range of hills, close to the long-distance path known as Offa's Dyke. There are excellent golf courses nearby, and those with an interest in history will be spoilt for choice of magnificent castles. Chester with its Roman remains and excellent shopping is not far away; nor is the North Wales coast with the beautiful sands of Rhyl, and other resorts.
There are a number of excellent restaurants in the area and several local pubs with good food and drink. Afonwen, just three-quarters of a mile away, has an outstanding Craft and Antique Centre with a cafe, and Caerwys (a mile and a half away) has a range of shops and a bistro.
