We offer total peace and tranquillity, the only sounds being the birds and the sea. As you read this, whales, porpoises and dolphins may be cruising past our headland. Tigh Nan Shian is situated in Culkein on the Stoer peninsula. It has panoramic views of the sea, Handa Island bird sanctuary and the Sutherland mountains. The village of Lochinver is a scenic 20-minute drive away and has all local amenities (shops, pubs, restaurants, garage, bank and health centre).

Tigh Nan Shian was built from the ruins of a crofter's cottage in the 1970s and was completely refurbished in 2004. It stands on a hill (from which its Gaelic name derives "Hill of the Fairies" ) in garden grounds of approximately two thirds of an acre.

There is a sitting area as well as wild garden for children (and adults!) to explore. Accommodation comprises a large dining kitchen with picture window overlooking the sea and mountains, spacious living room with open fire and separate family/dining room. Three bedrooms offer a king-size bedroom, twin room and a single room with a pull out bed making a double/twin. The family bathroom has a separate, walk-in shower. There is full electric central heating.

Culkein beach is within easy walking distance (about 500 metres) and other safe, white sand beaches are close by. The surrounding area is famed for wildlife including otters, seals, deer and bird life.

Tigh Nan Shian makes an ideal base for relaxing, walking, sailing, beach-combing, climbing, fishing (sea and loch) and geology. Sightseeing opportunities abound for all the family, many only a short walk or drive from the house. Nearby, the village of Ullapool has a leisure centre (including swimming pool)and 9 hole golf course. A variety of boat trips to local attractions (Summer Isles, Handa Island, seal colony, Britain's highest waterfall, gardens) is available from points along the coast. This area has been described as Europe's last great wilderness, enjoy it while you can; it's a very special place.
