400 year old Menstrie Castle is steeped in history as it was once owned by Sir William Alexander the 1st Earl of Stirling in the early 1600s. One of the ground floor rooms is now used to commemorate the baronets of Nova Scotia recognising Sir Williams role in founding Nova Scotia. The surrounding area is filled with many attractions including Lochs, Castles, Mountains and glen. The accommodation is a fully equipped kitchen including washing machine and microwave, comfortable lounge/dining area and bathroom with one double bedroom one tiwn room and a sofa bed in the living area. The apartment can sleep up to 6 people. The Castle apartment enjoys panoramic views of the hills from most windows. The current stairwell is said to be the position of the staircase in the original castle and is set in the turret offering a curved feature to the interior. Menstrie Castle is a 3 storey casteilated house that was home to MacAllister who anglicised the name to Alexander. Sir William Alexander was to become 1st Earl of Stirling in 1633. In 1626 he had been appointed Principal Secretary of State for Scotland and entrusted with the establishment of a Scottish Colony in Nova Scotia Canada.
