Kinnaird Castle is home of Earl and Countess of Southesk and their family. It has been owned by the Carnegie family, Dukes of Fife & Earls of Southesk, for over 600 years. The Castle lies in 1300 acres of parkland between the Angus coastline & rolling glens, offering miles of walks through countryside & woodlands, wildlife, fishing & shooting. Kinnaird Estate offers salmon & trout fishing on the River South Esk or the Estate lakes if arranged in advance. The original main bedroom floor of the Castle has been converted into two apartments. The area around Brechin & the Montrose Basin is largely undiscovered by the visitors to Scotland, yet is easily accessible from Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh & Glasgow airports, excellent main roads and is minutes from Montrose station on the East Coast London-Aberdeen line. There are golf courses for every player. Carnoustie is 25 minutes & St Andrews less than an hour. Nearer are courses at Edzell, Montrose, Strathmore and Letham Grange. The apartment has well equipped kitchen, it is also possible to take advantage of a fully catered service offered at Kinnaird. This includes breakfast and three-course dinners, featuring local produce, with the additional facility of having rooms serviced daily. Guests may use an allocated area of garden a little way from the Castle. The apartment is at the top of two long flights of stairs, so are not really suitable for those who may have walking difficulties. Barony Apartment is situated at the corner of the Castle on the second floor. It has its own front door and parking right outside. The bedrooms are not as large as in the Macduff Tower, but the reception rooms are every bit as spacious and full of character and elegance. There are two double bedrooms, two twin bedrooms, a single bedroom and a TV room which can double as a single bedroom. There are four separate bathrooms: the Green bathroom with bath, hand held shower, w/b, w/c; Glen bathroom with bath, over-bath shower, w/b, w/c; Waterson bathroom with bath, over-bath shower, w/b, w/c and the Hunt bathroom, down three steps, with bath, hand held shower, w/b and w/c. The large, comfortable sitting room, again with an open log fire, is distinguished by two round towers, with window seats, which make perfect reading areas. The dining room has lots of space and a beautiful table that can seat 12 easily. The kitchen is light and well equipped with fridge/freezer, electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Two airing cupboards offer drying space and there is a large drying room for outdoor clothes downstairs, as well as a hall and storage room.
