Mossdale is a traditional Scottish holiday house of lapboard pine construction dating from 1908, in the heart of the village of Rockcliffe located on the coast of the Solway Firth in Galloway, in the South West of Scotland. The house is located 50 meters from Rockcliffe beach bordering National Trust lands and the scenic Jubilee path leading to the sailing village of Kippford and forest trails in Dalbeattie Forest. Sandyhills and the RSPB nature reserve of Mersehead is a scenic two mile drive from Rockcliffe.

Rockcliffe is a quiet and unspoiled village with a sandy beach, with rock pools and mud flats when the tide goes out, providing a natural playground for children to explore. There is a tearoom in the village, serving cakes, soups, and drinks. On the edge of the village next to the forest is the Baron’s Craig Hotel, which has a good restaurant and an art gallery.

There was an important Celtic settlement situated on the Mote of Mark, which is a small hill, with a panorama overf the estuary of the River Urr and a great place for an evening walk to catch the sunset.

Rockcliffe is also one of the few areas in Britain where you can spot red squirrels. The local shops sell squirrel nuts and if you put some out you might see one in the garden in the early morning. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t because there are plenty of woodland birds to see, one regular visitor in the summer is the Siskin and there are greenfinches, blue tits, coal tits, great tits, chaffinches, goldcrests and sometimes goldfinches. It is a paradise for ornithologists and those who love nature.
