Stag Cottage (built c.1580) is a tiny, beautiful and historic Grade II Listed building hidden away in the ancient Pennine village of Heptonstall.

Heptonstall is a beautiful hill top village situated in the heart of Calderdale, West Yorkshire, some 500 feet above the popular and bustling town of Hebden Bridge. The village has 2 pubs, a cafe, a village post office and a small museum.

The cottage sleeps 3 adults (1 kingsize, 1 single) and there is also a fold up cot for infants. Gas central heating. Fully fitted kitchen with gas stove. Bicycle storage in dungeon (19C village lock up in basement of cottage). Free parking within 50 yards of the cottage. A regular bus service runs between Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge. Train station at Hebden Bridge.

Stag cottage oozes charm and retains many original features, including stone mullioned windows, arched lintels, wooden beams and a king post truss with wattle and daub infill. A 4 1/2 foot high beam separates the kitchen from the living area.

The surrounding countryside is breathtaking, ideal for walking and cycling, including the nearby National Trust owned Hardcastle Crags. There are literary links to both the Bronte family in nearby Howarth and to Ted Hughes and his wife Sylvia Plath, who is buried in the village church yard. The unique and popular town of Hebden Bridge is just a short walk down the hill, offering dozens of independent shops, galleries, restaurants and cafes.

Stag Cottage is situated in a small courtyard off the main village street, just a stone's throw from the Post Office and the two village pubs. The Cottage is reputed to be the oldest in the village, dating from the 16th Century.  The cottage provides the most romantic of get aways for any occasion.

Ground Floor

Single bedroom with original stone mullion windows. Double bedroom with kingsize bed and views over Hardcastle Crags to the hills beyond. Bathroom under stairs with toilet, wash basin and bath (low ceiling).

First Floor

Wooden stairs to first floor, containing open plan living room with fully fitted kitchen. Television with Freeview and DVD/ X Box discreetly concealed in wood cabinet. Beautiful arched mullion windows and a sash window with views over the wooded valley. Wall mounted gas boiler giving instant hot water and full central heating. Delightful ceiling space with original beams and wattle and daub.

Other facilities include free parking, electric coal effect fire, radio/ CD player, toaster, microwave, iron and ironing board.

Bed linen, duvets, towels, toilet rolls and tea towels all provided.
