Special cottages for two are always sought after, and School Cottage is no exception. It is delightfully situated in Newbiggin-in-Bishopdale, and was at one time the village school with its tall stone mullioned windows upstairs. These fill the cottage with light, and ensure that you can make the most of the fabulous views over open countryside to both the front and back of the cottage. This is a cosy, romantic retreat with a sense of luxury in a beautiful location.
The Accommodation
Entrance into small porch with storage and hanging space which leads into the carefully designed and co-ordinated sitting/dining/kitchen room. The sitting room area incorporates two hand built two seater gold and red chenille settees, beech side tables, lamps and rugs, with a multifuel stove to snuggle up in front of. There is a complete entertainment centre with flat screen TV, video, DVD player, mini hi-fi system with radio/cassette/CD, games, books and tourist information. There is a beech dining table and chairs next to the window seat. The cream Shaker style kitchen is very well fitted out with beech worktops and an unusual corner sink. The Kitchen includes a dishwasher, washing machine/drier, electric fan oven and grill, ceramic hob with extractor fan above, microwave and fridge freezer. An unusual open tread metal staircase (reputed to be from York’s Railway Museum) leads directly into the bedroom with its king size, elegant, hand crafted French style bronze bed-just imagine sitting in bed with a cup of tea and the shutters open, with a view across Bishopdale to the hills beyond, in complete privacy. Or you may prefer to enjoy the view from the rocking chair next to the window. There is a compact bathroom directly off the bedroom with bath with shower over, washbasin, WC and electric towel rail.
Outside there is parking space for one car directly outside the cottage, and further roadside parking about 20 yards away, near the waterfall. A second porch at the rear of the cottage leads out to the private and secluded patio and garden, with garden furniture - a perfect place to relax after a days walking.
