Swan House is a sumptuously furnished grade II listed country house originally dating from the mid seventeenth century ‘secret’ village. The Coln Valley is reputedly the loveliest in the Cotswolds and Winson is the most exclusive village in it. It is hidden away on a no-through road and set in gardens of two acres that run down to the river with its own spring fed trout lake. The house has six bedrooms (three double, two twins and one single with trundle bed), three bathrooms, large hall/sitting room, laundry room, boot room, fully fitted kitchen, dining room and 36" drawing room with grand piano, and extensive views over the gardens and lake. The drawing and dining room have log-burning fires. The master bedroom has a four-poster bed. All bedrooms are beautifully appointed, most with views of the gardens or the village. The bathrooms have been luxuriously fitted with modern baths and showers and set in marble.There is a television, video player, cd player, playstation and numerous board games to keep all ages and interests amused. The setting is a walkers’ paradise with countless local walks and longer walks to lovely local pubs. For the less energetic, there are fly fishing rods for use in the lake. Bicycles are also available. There is a large terrace for informal summer dining and a gas-fired barbeque. The gardens are idyllic, with a formal long herbaceous border, wild green, orchard and lake. Sitting in the hammock listening to the river bubble by is guaranteed to diminish stress. Bibury, described by William Morris as the ‘most beautiful village in England’ is about two miles away. He is reputed to have visited the village church, part of the Parish of Bibury with Winson; certainly his influence can be seen in the painted walls there.
