April Cottage is a pretty, detached, 2/3 bedroom chalet in a quiet street in the village of Stourpaine. The village is about three miles along the road from Blandford Forum to Shaftesbury - the A350 - in the valley of the River Stour. It has small, secluded gardens at the back and front, the rear one ( and both upstairs bedrooms ) enjoying a lovely South facing view over a field, churchyard, woods and distant hills. The village has an excellent and friendly shop (two minutes walk from the chalet), with a pub ( "The White Horse" ) next door to the shop which provides good food. The pretty 11th century church is a two minutes walk in the other direction. Walkers will find that Stourpaine is ideal, with Hod Hill ( an ancient Saxon fort ) a beautiful and easy walk from the cottage, and Hambledon Hill just beyond it, with the village of Shroton lying beneath it, famous for the "Cricketers Inn" which serves excellent food, as does Plumber Manor, near nearby Sturminster Newton. The area is full of history, with Thomas Hardy’s cottage birthplace nearby, his museum in nearby Dorchester - also "Clouds" where Lawrence of Arabia lived after his exploits during World War 1. The seaside is within easy drive – Kimmeridge being half an hour away and Studland Bay slightly further. One upstairs bedroom has comfortable twin beds. The other has two bunk beds for children and a cot. One of the downstairs rooms can be used either as an extra bedroom or a dining room, study or TV room. The sitting room is spacious and very light, suitable for entertaining, and is joined to the kitchen by an arch. The owners, John and Angela, live a few doors up the road and will personally see to individual needs of tenants and help them to settle in and enjoy their stay. Disabled guests are welcome, particularly with the option of using the ground floor room as a bedroom, which has a toilet next door to it. The kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. Linen is available, though a 10% deduction is made for those who provide their own. There are two parking spaces in the front of the house which are available to tenants. The garage is at present used for storage. |
