The Grade II listed cottage is very early C18, detached, and recently re-thatched. The ground floor consists of entrance hall, a very spacious sitting room with beams and large inglenook fireplace (logs stored in the small barn) with original bread oven in wall; doors lead onto the terrace and garden. Off the hall is the bathroom and a dining room (also opening onto the terrace), which leads to the kitchen. There is a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, micro-wave, electric cooker plus wall oven - a stable type door opens to the garden. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, 1 king size, a twin and one with bunk beds.
The large garden is about an acre, leading to a mill stream and has mature trees and an un-interrupted view. We ask that everyone make themselves thoroughly at home and feel free to pick any flowers, herbs or fruit (plums, raspberries, apples, figs, gooseberries and rhubarb) that may be ripe in the garden. Birds include bullfinches, gold finches, tree creepers, green woodpeckers, gold crested wrens and many more. Also badgers and occasional deer. Table tennis is in the big barn, though be warned – this is not a table tennis ‘room’ – it is an old barn with a dirt floor so don’t wear your best shoes! Heating included in price, + all bed linen and duvets, but not towels. Cot and a high chair provided.
Front door opens to the village street - approx. 100yds from The Loders Arms - very welcoming with open fire, a garden, and excellent food. Many good local pubs/restaurants. The unspoilt village is mainly attractive C18 stone cottages, and very quiet. There is a manor house and ancient church.
Loders is about 2mls inland from World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast and there is a great variety of walks - both coastal and pub centred. Maps etc. are provided, along with a range of brochures for National Trust properties, gardens and places of interest to visit.
Bridport is a five minute drive and is an attractive small market town with a good range of shops from Superstore to family bakers, delis, bookshop etc. Market days are Weds. and Sat. with a real mix of stalls, mainly antiques in South Street; there is a good sports centre with swimming pool. Lyme Regis is 10mls. and Dorchester (museums, cinema)12 mls.
