Well Cottage dates back over 300 years and provides good sized holiday accommodation whilst retaining it’s charm and many original features. Situated in a hamlet with fine thatched cottages, it is under 1/2 mile to the renowned Sloop Inn at Bantham and under a mile to the magnficent Bantham beach. Both are an easy walk or very short drive away. Well Cottage is ideal for families, couples or groups of friends. The Area Well Cottage is in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and is situated in West Buckland, a hamlet 1/2 mile from Bantham and 1 mile from Thurlestone. Both of these villages have a local store & PO and pubs serving food. The Sloop Inn at Bantham is highly recommended in many pub guides. West Buckland is picturesque, quiet and peaceful yet ideally situated for access to all the local beaches, coast and inland walks and other amenities such as 9 and 18 hole golf courses 1.5 miles away at Thurlestone. The village is 2 miles off the A379 Kingsbridge to Plymouth road. Bantham beach lies at the mouth of the winding river Avon and overlooks the famous Burgh Island with it’s art deco hotel. The beach is the best surfing beach in the area but is also safe for children as it slopes gradually and offers lovely soft sand, sand dunes and rock pools. There are many other good beaches in the area at Thurlestone, Bigbury-on-Sea, South Milton and Hope Cove. The sailing centre at Salcombe is not far away for sailing tuition, boat hire and boat trips and the market town of Kingsbridge for shops, restaurants and leisure centre is just 5 miles away. In the other direction is the market town of Modbury and, a little further afield Plymouth. The surrounding area is ideal for walking, offering spectacular views along the coast. Inland Dartmoor is easily accessible. Golf, fishing, sailing and horse riding are all available nearby. Accommodation The accommodation, which has central heating throughout comprises; On the ground floor an entrance hall, a farmhouse style kitchen/breakfast room with exposed timber joists and natural slate floor. The kitchen has electric cooker, microwave, washing machine, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and pine table and chairs. Large sitting room with natural slate floor, exposed beams, recessed fireplace with multifuel stove, dining table and oak stairs to first floor. In the lounge there is a TV, stereo system, video and telephone for incoming calls only. Upstairs there is a master double bedroom (5ft bed) with en-suite (shower, WC and hand basin),TV and a stable door leading to the patio and rear garden. A double bedroom (4ft 6in bed) with hand basin, single bedroom (3ft bed), a twin bedroom (3ft beds) with hand basin and bathroom with bath (shower over), WC and hand basin. All the beds have duvets and pillows. Linen may be hired by arrangement. A travel cot and high chair are available. Outside there is a large enclosed courtyard (set back from the road) with parking for up to four cars though the entrance to the courtyard is narrow. Steps lead up from the courtyard to a private patio area and a private, south facing mainly lawned garden. The garden is very sheltered and sunny and enjoys views over the village to the countryside beyond. Garden furniture and a BBQ are provided. Dogs may be permitted by prior arrangement.
