Part of Coombe Head Farm, The Shippon is ideally located for hiking, cycling or horse riding in the Dartmoor National Park. The Shippon, formerly a cow shed, has been professionally converted into a stone built cottage; the work was completed in 2003. The farm is a haven for wildlife.The spacious living room has good seating, plus a dining table and chairs, a colour TV and video. The bathroom, with its gold-coloured fittings, includes a shower over the bath. One bedroom is furnished with a double bed and a vanity unit. There are two single rooms, one having a vanity unit.There is ample parking space for cars and at the rear of The Shippon is a small, enclosed paved area. Included in the rental price is linen, electricity and oil-fired full central heating.The farm, which is 100% environmentally friendly, is the source of a natural spring that forms ponds in one of the fields and then runs into the nearby River Taw (the playground of Tarka the Otter). Various areas are left ungrazed during the summer months so that there is an abundance of natural flora and wildlife. For your personal safely we can't allow free access to the fields and animals at all times but we're happy to introduce you to the animals and when the field isn't being grazed, you might want to take the opportunity to enjoy a picnic by the ponds. Because of our own animals, we can't allow dogs to visit. we can accommodate a horse, having a spare, newly- built stable available.The market town of Okehampton is three miles away. Its 1950s style railway station has steam trains to Meldon viaduct, offering dramatic views of the Dartmoor Tors. Alongside the railway runs "The Granite Way", part of National Cycle Route 27.
