Brook Cottage is a delightful Grade II Listed thatched cottage sleeping 6-8 people.Originally two cottages, it has been carefully renovated and tastefully decorated to set off the exposed beams and old world charm of an inglenook fireplace. A great feature of the cottage is that it still has two living rooms; one for the adults and a snug for the children! The snug has a sofa bed. Steep open plan staircases lead off each living room to separate accommodation upstairs.There is a huge master bedroom with gabled ceiling and en suite shower room. This bedroom has a double bed, a folding bed and still plenty of space for a cot.The second bedroom has twin beds and is next to the bathroom. The third bedroom is also very large with twin beds and en suite shower room.The whole cottage has been furnished and equipped to a high standard. The settees are large and so comfortable that it is a positive pleasure to spend any wet days indoors reading. Good weather (and the weather is often better in this corner of the country) can be enjoyed on the beaches, walking the coast path or the extensive commons, bird watching, playing golf or just relaxing in the secluded courtyard with a barbecue.The historic village of East Budleigh was once a port of great importance, which declined as the river silted up leaving the village unspoilt by modern development. Although a quiet rural backwater there is entertainment to be had in Exeter and Exmouth and go-carting just up the road.The fine church is close by as is the Sir Walter Raleigh Inn, which does excellent meals. It is a pleasant walk along the narrow lane enclosed by Devon banks of wild flowers to Hayes Barton, the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh and a splendid building itself.There is another pub at the other end of the village, which also serves good food.
