The Apple Loft
Situated two miles from Gunnislake and the nearest shops, The Apple Loft provides light and spacious accommodation for two people (and a baby).
The Apple Loft forms part of the old stone buildings that make up the farm courtyard and has been converted to retain as many of its original features as possible. It has original stone work, exposed timbers, old wooden floorboards and double doors through which apples were once loaded. Open these doors on a balmy summer's evening, watch the swallows and bats performing their acrobatics across the yard and enjoy the view across the Tamar Valley.
We are sorry that we cannot offer to accommodate any dogs but our working collies are territorial, and although they like our visitors they do not understand 'be nice to visiting dogs!'
Accommodation comprises a hallway with storage space for coats and muddy boots! This opens out into the large airy living space with dinning table and well equipped kitchen area.
You can order a casserole and vegetables to be cooking for you in the oven on your day of arrival!!
Central heating and a wood burning stove ensure warmth and comfort. Attractive surroundings, period pine furniture and a large comfy sofa provide everything you want for a relaxing week away from the hassles of modern life, but there is a television and radio if you want to keep in touch.
Occasional lights and cushions add to the atmosphere. The kitchen has antique pine fittings, a gas cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, Belfast sink and fridge. Stairs lead to the mezzanine sleeping platform with its queen-sized bed. The bathroom has a full sized bath with shower attachment, lavatory and wash basin with light, shaver point and hair dryer. You are welcome to use the washing machine and tumbler drier in the farmhouse. There is a cot available for a young child, together with high chair, fireguard and stair gate.
Outside the Apple Loft there is a private courtyard garden with outside furniture and barbecue overlooking the orchard. Park your car in the farmyard and walk up a few wide granite steps to the path that leads to the Apple Loft's front door.
Join in routine activities on the farm, follow the farm path through fields and woodland, discover badger sets, see industrial archaeological evidence of copper mining, picnic by the River Tamar, watching for the flash of a kingfisher or the leap of a salmon. Buzzards are often seen flying in the valley and there is an abundance of other birds and wildlife.
