Local Attractions
The Eden Project is already being called the 8th wonder of the world. It is the home of the world's largest greenhouses. Nestling within a giant 50 metre deep crater overlooking St Austell Bay are two gigantic geodesic conservations - one is a majestic rainforest cathedral - the 'Humid Tropics Biome'; the other, is the 'Warm Temperate Biome', host to the plants, fruits and flowers of the Mediterranean, South Africa and California. They form a majestic backdrop to the outdoor landscape.
The Minack Theatre and Visitor Centre is a great place to visit all the year round. Visit by day and explore this unique internationally famous open-air theatre created from the cliff side at Porthcurno by Rowena Cade with her own hands. Enjoy the spectacular views over Porthcurno Bay to the Logan Rock, the wealth of photographs, models and audio-visual displays.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are in one of the most mysterious estates in England. At the end of the nineteenth century its thousand acres were at their zenith, but only a few years later bramble and ivy were already drawing a green veil over this "Sleeping Beauty". After decades of neglect, the devastating hurricane of 1990 should have consigned the Lost Gardens of Heligan to a footnote in history. Instead, events conspired to bring a dedicated restoration team inspired by the romance of the gardens decay to restore them to there present internationally acclaimed award-winning gardens.
St. Michael's Mount
Originally the site of a Benedictine priory and approached by a causeway at low tide, the dramatic castle on top of this famous rocky island dates from the 12th century. It was converted into a private house in the 17th century and contains fascinating early rooms, an armoury, a rococo Gothic drawing room and, at the highest point, a 14th-century church. There are magnificent views towards Land’s End and The Lizard.
Tate Gallery St Ives opened in June 1993 and offers a unique introduction to the new order of reality. This is one birthplace of modern municipal art, where many works can be viewed in the surroundings and atmosphere which inspired them: essential form abstracted from concrete. The Gallery also manages the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, which gives a remarkable insight into the work of this great twentieth-century sculptor.
The Isles of Scilly can be visited by sea or air, and whatever time of year you visit you will be sure to enjoy the natural beauty of the islands. Exotic plants and wild flowers, ancient cairns and crumbling castles, sparkling white sands and azure sea - all the treasures of the Islands await you. Only 28 miles from Land's End, yet with a real hint of the Tropics.
