Okel Tor is acknowledged by English Heritage to be one of the best surviving 19th century tin mines nationally and has recently been added to the list of scheduled ancient monuments. The Count House is the former mine captain's office and the Smithy was the workshop of the mine where miners' picks were sharpened. Both cottages are Grade II Listed and situated in an elevated position within approximately 16 acres of natural woodland and lowland heath on the banks of the River Tamar with beautiful views of Devon. There are a number of interesting ruins and an abundance of flora and fauna.Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and the sandy beaches at Whitsand Bay are just a short drive away. The National Trusts enchanting Cotehele House is within walking distance and the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail actually passes through Okel Tor.Please note - there is a £20 charge for pets per week or part of week. The Smithy offers 1 double bedroom with en-suite shower room, open-plan lounge with kitchen and dining areas. |
