Recently Duncton Mill has been run as a holiday cottage business. There is an entirely separate and successful trout rearing and fishing enterprise operating the big lakes. Close by are Goodwood, the coast and the historic towns of Brighton, Arundel, Chichester and Petworth. Duncton Mill is believed to be a site of ancient origin owing to its proximity to the South Downs Way (an ancient trail since Neolithic times) and the natural water spring in the grounds. The trout-pond at Duncton Mill would further suggest this. However the first real evidence of habitation and of a mill is recorded in the Doomsday Book (1086). There have been orchards and fisheries at Duncton Mill since medieval times. From that time, the mill was used for both dying cloth and grinding corn. The current water-mill was built in l824, and has not been used for nearly a hundred years. There are hopes that it will be refurbished one day. We can accommodate a wide range of conferences, courses and therapies, including: - acupuncture, yoga, tai chi, qi gong, psychotherapy, medicine and body-work of all kinds. The setting also invites courses in the arts, and ecologically based subjects. Residential Retreat Accommodation We offer extremely comfortable, high quality, residential accommodation for groups of up to 20. Just as important, our renowned and experienced resident chef provides truly delicious and imaginative vegetarian food. There are two warm, light, flexible and well equipped conference and workshop spaces. The retreat centre consists of a large farmhouse, cottages and barns, set around a natural stream-fed trout pond on a site of “outstanding natural beauty”. Duncton Mill is a hamlet uniquely placed within easy reach of London and Heathrow and Gatwick Airports: it is a hidden jewel nestling at the foot of the glorious South Downs. This makes it an ideal international course venue. Surrounded by peaceful lakes, extensive woodland and an organic farm, we are only a short step from the South Downs Way.
