A stroll around Broadstairs is a journey of discovery with a lovely surprise around each corner. The most famous resident was Charles Dickens who spent much time here, writing many of his classic novels here. Visit the Dickens Museum and watch out for costumed characters during our annual Dickens Week hled in June.

Walk around the Thanet coastline to explore the beautiful beaches and bays, each with its own character. Broadstairs' main beach is the unspoilt Viking Bay, a mere few minutes' walk away from the Boat House, where you can still see much of Broadstairs' Victorian heritage. Viking bay possesses a small harbour with cafes and giftshops, with plenty of rockpools for crabbing and exploring. With an old fashioned beach funfair complete with helter skelter and swingboats, and a traditional punch and judy show twice a day in high season means that there's plenty to keep everyone entertained. The Pavilion offers beachside drinks and lunches as well, you don't have to walk far to find fish and chips to eat on the beach!

Joss Bay is more rural and offers great surfing opportunities (check out Joss Bay Surf School), whilst Botany Bay is quieter and more secluded and can feel a million miles from anywhere - absolute bliss when you want to laze around and recharge your batteries. Drive south to Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve for birdwatching and wild ponies.

Although Broadstairs has kept much of its old fashioned charm and tranquility, we have a vibrant calendar of events ranging from the annual Dickens Festival (19-25 June), Water Gala (24-26 June) and Folk Week (06-13 Aug) to a great free summer entertainment programme with a weekly firework display during the school summer holidays.Broadstairs also hosts its own annual Food Festival in October, featuring local producers and restaurants, with free tastings and cookery demonstrations by top chefs.

There are a mouth-watering number of restaurants, bistros, cafes and pubs to choose from - you could eat your way around the world.

Visit Ramsgate's Royal Harbour for a taste of the Mediterranean (on a sunny day!), to take out a boat for seal watching or sea fishing, or just to watch the boats from its many cafes and bars. Ramsgate and Margate host their own annual festivals and events.

With fast rail links to Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, Europe is easily reached on Eurostar. The port of Dover is only 30 minutes drive away where you can hop on a ferry to France, and in March 2010 a new ferry service between Ramsgate and Boulogne is scheduled to start, making lunch in France a real possibility. Don't forget your passport!

Historic Canterbury is only a 30 minute drive away, with it's spectacular cathedral, city walls, restaurants, shops and parks. You can take a boat trip on the river to see the sights from a different perspective.

Step back in time at one of our nearby castles - Dover, Deal, Walmer, Leeds and Rochester Castles are all easily reached by car in under an hour.

Kent is the Garden of England and our extensive coastline boasts an array of blue flag award winning beaches and thrilling watersports. Explore our beautiful countryside, discover country lanes, orchards, vineyards and oast houses. England's oldest county is up to the minute though, with leading edge galleries, theatre and entertaining night life giving you so many things to do. Kent boasts outstanding golf clubs, including the famous St Georges at Sandwich. We are available to rent in the Sandwich open.
