Moorhen cottage

A newly converted single storey barn in the heart of our organic dairy farm, Moorhen Cottage is ideal for birdwatchers and lovers of wildlife. It’s perfect for 2 people but can accommodate 4 using the sofa bed in the spacious living room.

There is a large garden and terrace with a stunning view, a wildlife pond, and a ‘ha-ha’ (with a 5 foot drop!) at the bottom of the garden. You can get tasty meals 200 metres away at the Lamb Inn (www.thelambinnwartling) in the hamlet of Wartling , before sauntering back to the cosy cottage. Underfloor heating and solar hot water will ensure you are comfortable in all weathers.

Local attractions include Herstmonceux and Pevensey Castles, we are 5 miles from the coast, near the historic town of Battle (see visit1066country.com for more information) and within easy reach of the newly designated South Downs National park,  Rye Harbour and other wildlife sites.

The cottage is not suitable for children due to the ha-ha and pond, but dogs are welcome if booked in advance - strict ‘doggie rules’ apply!

Activities on the working farm vary according to the time of year  - in winter our herd of organic cows will be in the barns nearby, in summer they graze the fields and you may see them coming in for milking, or tractors bringing in the hay or silage crops. Guests are welcome to explore the farm, we provide several pairs of wellington boots but if you have your own it’s a good idea to bring them!, see our website www.courtlodgeorganics.co.uk .
