The ancient market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, just inside the south-east boundary of Cumbria, provides and ideal holiday base in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
Whelprigg House was built in 1834 for the Gibson family, local landowners in the Lunesdale region. It was designed and supervised by the well-known architects, Websters of Kendal and various additions were made in the early 20th century. The house and surrounding estate were acquired by the present owner’s family, the Bowrings, in 1921.
