Chestnut Cottage is a charming 300-year-old traditional Lakeland stone cottage situated in the hamlet of Millbeck, near Applethwaite, just 2 miles from the bustling market town of Keswick.

Nestling on the lower slopes of Skiddaw, Chestnut Cottage occupies one of the most picturesque locations within the Lake District National Park. The cottage has a south facing aspect and commands spectacular views across to Borrowdale, Newlands and Whinlatter. It is situated within a few miles of two of the Lake District's most popular lakes; Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake with its famous osprey nesting site. Millbeck is an ideal base for exploring the Northern Lake District.

Chestnut Cottage has 2 bedrooms and can sleep four plus a cot. Children and pets are welcome. It is non-smoking throughout. There is parking for two cars, one garage space and one off road space, plus secure storage for bikes.

The cottage has been in the same family for four generations and is currently owned by Paul Brownrigg and his father Sam. Sam still farms the surrounding land. Paul and his wife Bernie live next to the cottage and are keen to share their knowledge of the local area with you to enable you to make the most of your holiday with us.

Chestnut Cottage has recently been extensively renovated but still retains many original features such as the curving stone staircase and exposed oak beams. It now benefits from gas central heating, double glazing throughout and instant hot water from a combination boiler.

The accommodation comprises outside porch with the front door opening directly into the sitting/dining room which has a cast iron open fire and exposed oak beams. There is a full size TV with DVD/video and a CD/radio.

The dining area leads through into a modern well-equipped kitchen with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer and full size fridge/freezer.

There is a large hall downstairs with room for drying coats and boots. Off the hall there is a shower room with modern thermostatically controlled shower with unlimited hot water.

The original staircase made with local flagstones leads up to the two bedrooms. There is an integral stairgate at the top. The spacious master bedroom has the original cast iron fireplace and a king size wrought iron bed. The twin room has two full size single pine beds.

The cottage is furnished and decorated to a high standard and is awaiting inspection by Visit England (previously the English Tourist Council). The price is inclusive of all linen and towels, heating, logs and coal. We can provide cot, high chair, baby bath, changing mat and microwave steriliser all at no extra cost.
