The Steading sits on the edge of a working farm in the peaceful village of Great Strickland, located in the unspoilt Eden Valley. On the fringe of the Lake District National Park, The Steading is within easy reach of many popular tourist destinations. This 18th century barn has been lovingly restored and luxuriously refurbished to a high standard, gaining a Visit Britain 4 Star rating. It retains all its rustic charm yet also provides many modern comforts.
The spacious but cosy lounge has a feature oak fireplace with log burning stove, oak floors, shutters and exposed beams. Television with freeview, DVD player, radio CD player and a variety of games are provided. We also have folders containing details of local activities, walks and places to visit and provide maps/cycle routes. There is a large, modern and fully equipped dining kitchen with fan assisted oven, halogen hob, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave. There is a downstairs WC and utility room/drying area. Open, panelled stairs from the lounge lead to the landing area. The large master bedroom offers a king-size sleigh bed, fitted wardrobes and beamed ceiling. A further beamed bedroom has a double bed. Hairdryer supplied. Also upstairs is the oak panelled bathroom with separate shower cubicle, full-sized bath, WC & washbasin. Outside there is a private rear garden with seasonal fruit bushes and herb garden. A pergola and separate patio area with garden furniture are idealfor summer barbecues. There is a large garage plus off road parking for 2 vehicles. Great Strickland is surrounded by spectacular scenery and an abundance of attractions and places to visit. The Steading is an ideal base for exploring the nearby Lake District, with Ullswater less than 10 miles away, and the beautiful unspoilt Eden Valley. The Pennines are visible from the doorstep and easily accessible and the Yorkshire Dales and Scottish Borders are a leisurely drive away.
Absorb the history of the area by visiting the many castles, historic houses, ancient market towns, gardens and museums. Appreciate the natural beauty of the area: waterfalls and rivers, lakes and fells with its vast array of flora and fauna. Enjoy the ample opportunities for fishing, birdwatching and photography. For the energetic, go mountain biking, climbing, abseiling, fell walking, water skiing or windsurfing. More sedate activities include pony trekking, golf, a ride on the Steamer on Ullswater or a trip on the famous Settle-Carlisle railway line for a day in the Dales
Whatever your preference, this is a perfect destination for outdoor activities. Equally, The Steading is an idyllic, rural retreat for simple relaxation.
In the village there is a friendly pub/restaurant with a varied menu less than five minutes walk away. There is also a village hall which holds regular events, St Barnabas church and an enclosed playground.
