The cottage is a former quarryman's cottage built in the mid to late 19thC from local slate. It has been tastefully refurbished and offers comfortable accommodation with beautiful views across the Langdale valley to Lingmoor fell and up the valley to Langdale Pikes. The cottage provides family accommodation for up to 4 people, a double and 2 single beds are provided. An additional fold-away bed, suitable for a child, the property is not suitable for toddlers or babies, can be provided if requested. The cottage is located within easy walking distance of Chapel Stile village.The owners who enjoyed the cottage as their second home for many years prior to letting wish to retain its 'home from home' character offering comfortable and well-equipped accommodation to a high standard. For that reason they clean and maintain it themselves.
The Langdale valley lies within a relatively quiet and secluded part of the Lake District and provides many opportunities for walking both lowland and on high fells. Among the lowland walks, Elterwater, Skelwith Fall, Loughrigg tarn and the Slaters bridge are all locations to be explored in addition to shorter walks by the river. The high peaks of the Langdale Pikes, Bow Fell, Lingmoor Fell and Wetherlam and even Scafell Pike beckon the more adventurous hikers. All can be reached by walking from the cottage door.Within the valley are a selection of hotels and pubs for food and refreshment and Chapel Stile village, just 10 minutes' walk from the cottage, also has a well-stocked general store and an attractive village church. Buses to and from Ambleside stop at Chapel Stile.Ambleside is an attractive little town which lies about 4 miles from Chapel Stile. It has a cinema, many restaurants, cafes and bars and shops to cater for all requirements. A short walk from the town centre is Lakeside, a stopping off point for the Windermere cruisers and where rowing boats can be hired.
