Cholmondeley has been the principal home to the Cholmondeley family since the Norman Conquest and the current Gothic Castle was built by the 1st Marquess between 1801 and 1804 on a more elevated and picturesque site than the previous half-timbered Elizabethan mansion. This had been in a lower lying part of the Park near the Chapel. The magnificent gardens surrounding the Castle can be largely attributed to the imagination and dedication of Lavinia, Marchioness of Cholmondeley, mother of the present 7th Marquess. Somerset Lodge South is one of a pair of delightful listed archway lodges at the boundary of the Castle gardens and just 200 yards or so from the Castle. The wonderfully peaceful location offers idyllic views across the magnificent Park, with its variety of mature trees and ‘Chapel Mere’. This delightful property comprises of one double and one twin bedroom, 1 bathroom and sleeps up to four people. It has a well equipped kitchen/diner with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher (dishwasher powder and washing-up liquid supplied) and washing machine (powder not supplied).
