Holidays in the heart of Northumbria Milfield Hill stands in an elevated position ¼ of a mile outside the village of Milfield. It was once the site of a large country estate dating back to 1750, owned by the Grey family until 1967, and the birthplace of the reformer Josephine Butler. Sadly the mansion house has gone and all that remains of the original buildings are the coach house, to which the cottage was attached in 1870, and the old farm buildings surrounded by lovely parkland and mature trees. We only have 40 acres of the original thousands but you can roam quietly over the surrounding area. The village of Milfield is situated on the A697, the main Newcastle – Coldstream – Edinburgh road. Milfield itself is five miles north of Wooler. Three hundred meters north of the village is a dept. of transport sign saying ‘Milfield Hill ¼ mile’. Drive up the hill past the wrought iron gates and look for the white gates on the left. The cottage has two bedrooms, a double room (5Ft Bed) and a twin bedded room, there is also a cot, should you require one. All beds have ‘all night’ electric under blankets and duvets (Summer & Winter togs) for which covers, and all other bed linen is provided. The beds are made up ready for your arrival. Also provided are bath towels, hand towels, bath mats, tea towels and table napkins. However if you are going swimming please bring your own beach towels. The kitchen is very well equipped with mellow pine units housing a NEFF circotherm oven with separate gas hob, (gas included in rental) extractor fan, dishwasher & microwave. There is a walk in pantry housing an electrolux fridge freezer & a hoover logic washer dryer. The sitting room come dining area is large with an open log burning fire (all logs provided) with easy chairs, sofa, colour TV + DVD player, and stereo CD player. Large windows look out over the lawns & parkland. Having experienced some of the difficulties of self-catering accommodation ourselves, we have equipped our cottage to a very high standard and hope that we have covered most eventualities. There are fitted carpets throughout except in the kitchen & bathroom, which have quarry, tiled floors. The cottage from March 2002 will have full oil fired central heating. Electricity and oil are included in the price this year we hope it will be easier for everyone. Our house and the cottage are quite separate and do not over look one another. The situation is quite exceptional enjoying a wonderful tranquil rural setting. The views from our upper fields of the whole of Glendale are really lovely. There are lawned areas to the front and rear; the rear lawn looks through mature trees to the park gate and on to the Cheviot foothills. It is a wonderful place for both the natural and ancient historians, having a wealth of wildlife and ancient settlements. It is very secluded yet not very remote. Milfield village has a post office come general store, a country café & a pub which serves bar meals. Wooler is 5 miles to the south and has all the facilities of a small town. The market towns of Kelso Alnwick and Berwick are all within ½ an hours drive. Holy Island, Bamburgh, & the wonderful coast are 20 mins by carThe Northumbrian castles & coast, the Scottish borders & lower Tweed valley, the Cheviot hills & National Parks are all in easy reach of Milfield, not to mention the National Trust properties of Wallington, Cragside, & Lindisfarne There is also a wealth of historic mansions & beautiful gardens on both sides of the border to visit. In the local area horse riding, gliding, & fishing are all available. For More InformationVisit Property's WebsiteSpecial Features
