A detached, stone-built character cottage providing spacious accommodation in beautiful scenic surrounds, overlooking National Park and Simonside Hills. Large breakfasting kitchen, comfortable lounge and a large enclosed garden. Ground floor cloakroom. 2 doubles (1 en-suite) and a twin bedroom. Unlimited walking from doorstep over rolling hills and along quiet country lanes, yet easy travel to beaches, castles and Newcastle. Guests are welcome to bring their own horses/cycles. The welcoming, comfortable lounge offers an open fire. Sliding doors open onto a patio and large enclosed garden. There are 3 large bedrooms upstairs - 2 doubles, and a twin with 2 rooms having sofa beds. The Cottage will sleep up to 8 comfortably. The tiled bathroom has a bath with overhead shower. All bed linen and towels are provided free of charge. Nearby AttractionsIn the heart of Northumbria, secluded lanes lead to peaceful villages, ancient castles and country estates. Quiet roads, bridleways and tracks make superb cycling, riding and walking routes through unspoilt countryside. The Rothbury Forest and heather clad slopes of the Simonside Hills are viewed from Garrett Lee. The magnificent Cheviots, Thrunton Woods and Harwood Forest are all within easy reach.
HorsesQuiet country lanes and bridleways criss-cross the area. A huge variety of circular trails of varying lengths can be followed (recommended route maps available in Cottage). Garrett Lee has hosted a fund-raising ride for 12 consecutive years, where visitors return to enjoy the varied trails and spectacular scenery. The farm is a stock farm of approximately 500 acres permanent pasture, and has always carried horses. Riders are welcome to hack within the confines of the farm boundary. Fields are linked with gates, wickets and occasionally hunt jumps of natural materials (at your own risk!!). A number of well-fenced, sheltered paddocks are available to accommodate visitors own horses. Stabling is also available. A few miles away lies the historic National Trust owned Cragside House, Gardens & Estate. Cragside was the first home in the world to be powered by hydro electricity and its beautifully landscaped gardens, lakeside walks, labyrinth and adventure play area make it a fantastic attraction for all the family. The Region is best known for its array of castles and monuments. Along the coast lie Bamburgh, Holy Island, Dunstanburgh and Warkworth. Further inland you will find Alnwick Castle, famous for its use as a film set for a number of movies and television productions including Harry Potter. Alnwick Castle is also home to the Alnwick Garden, one of the finest gardens in europe which was opened by Prince Charles in 2002. The garden boasts a Grand Cascade, over 65,000 individual plants, over 2 miles of intertwining pathways, a serpent garden, tree house and much more (a great day out!). An attraction not to be missed is the world heritage site Hadrian's Wall. Built by the Emperor Hadrian in 122 AD and stretching as far as the eye can see, Hadrian's Wall is a fascinating historic landmark which boasts a number of forts and museums along side this wonder of ancient architecture. For all you shopaholics, there is the fantastic city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. With Northumerland street and the Metro Centre (the largest shopping centre in europe), you are sure to find exactly what you're looking for whether it be fashion, food or gadgets. As well as shopping, Newcastle has some great restaurants and lively nightlife. Other attractions include, the Baltic art gallery, the millennium bridge and the famous Queyside.
