Station House, the terminal station of the Hexham - Allendale railway (closed in 1950), is located in the lovely North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is within 10 miles of the best, central section of Hadrian’s Wall. The apartment is the ground floor front of the Station House and is made up of the former Station Master’s Office, Staff Room, Booking Office and Waiting Room. A recent South-West facing sun-room / porch has been added.

The apartment lies vetween the villages of Catton and Allendale (about 1 mile from each), the latter offering shops, pubs, cafes, a post-office and a health centre and is open for holiday rentals throughout the year.

Allendale Caravan Park is located along the old railway track below Station House. The caravans are permanently sited on the park and are used for holidays by their owners.

The Allen Valley is a beautiful area in the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and Station House Flat is a mile from attractive, stone-built Allendale village, with its good local shops and pubs. The village hall and one of the pubs are the focus of a regular programme of bands, dances and other social events that are open to visitors. Look out for the Allendale Fair in May, the Allendale Show in August and the historic Tar Barrel Festival on New Year’s Eve as well as a host of other shows and festivals in local towns and villages.Station House is the former Allendale Railway Station, the terminal station on the Hexham to Allendale line, which closed in 1950.

Station House Flat faces the platform and is comprised of the ticket office, station-master’s office and waiting rooms of the old station.The area abounds in paths for walking and cycling with a host of wildlife to be seen and the mile-long walk along the riverbank to Allendale is particularly recommended. The best, central, part of Hadrian’s Wall is only 10 miles away, with a range of local museums where you can absorb the history of this world heritage site. Why not walk some of the newly opened National Trail along the wall or some of the circular paths which lead from it?

The bustling market town of Hexham is 10 miles away, with many small shops and coffee shops to explore. Lead mining was the main business of the Allen Valley until the mines closed in 1896. There are few remains of this industrial era, and those that are visible add character to the landscape. Killhope Museum, which won National Tourist Attraction of the Year Award, provides an insight into this time and a great family day out. Allendale Golf Club, Langley Dam fishing, local horse riding and trekking and even skiing (in season!) at Allenheads are also popular.Allendale Caravan Park, a small static caravan park with privately owned caravans.
