Clove Lodge Cottage is situated on the edge of the fells in a spectacular location near the head of Baldersdale and is the halfway point on the Pennine Way. It offers peace and solitude amidst the dramatic scenery of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are wonderful opportunities for walkers and mountain bikers, whilst the neighbouring reservoirs of Blackton and Hury offer fly-fishing. This is a haven for wildlife too, with nature reserve and bird hide. A ten minute drive away is Cotherstone where there is a post office/shop and two pubs. A few miles further is the attractive market town of Barnard Castle with its famous Bowes Museum. There are many other attractions including Raby Castle, High Force and Durham City all within easy reach. The cottage is Victorian, made of stone and adjoins the owners' farmhouse. It has an attractive garden area facing south with table, chairs and a small barbecue, all overlooking a wooded bank, waterfall and stream. There is private parking in front of the cottage. Ground floor: - Large comfortable sitting room with open fire set in original fireplace for which a supply of logs and coal are provided. There is a television and good selection of books, games and plenty of information about the area. A small dining room connects this room to a well-fitted kitchen, tastefully converted from a Coach House. This faces south and has a picture window overlooking the garden, with pleasant eating area. It is well equipped and has a full size electric cooker, fridge and microwave. The bathroom has a three-piece suite and heated towel rail. First floor:- Two attractive bedrooms sleep four. The main bedroom has a double pine bed. Pine doors reveal a walk-in dressing area. The second smaller bedroom has twin 2ft 9ins beds. Duvets, bed linen and towels are provided. Adjoining the cottage, in an original byre, is a small woodburning sauna and gym for the exclusive use of guests in the cottage. A relaxing end to a long day in the hills or sightseeing. The cottage is supplied with spring water and heating is by storage heaters, park central heating and open fire. Electricity is included in the price and a welcome park is provided. Evening meals can be arranged and are a particular speciality. Please ask for details. Rates : From £225 to £350 per week depending on season. Maximum of 4 people. Children are welcome.
