The carriage was originally built at Derby in 1961 for the Western Region (GWR) of British Rail. It was withdrawn from service and formed part of the "Millenium Travelling Cottage" until the Mid '90's. It arrived at the Watercress Line in Mid Hampshire, where it languished until bought by the owners of Coalport Railway Station. It was brought onto the site by road - lorry and trailer 100' in length and weighing 78 tons. A 2 day journey to travel 150 miles. The exterior has since been sympathetically restored to a pristine condition by professional carriage restorers. The interior was more of a challenge as nearly all of the interior had been altered and was not original. It was decided that as this was to be a 5*star holiday let, all space had to be utilised and to convey a feel of the most modern luxury with all the latest facilities. In fact to transpose an Edwardian railway director's family coach into the 21st century. The re-building of the interior took over 8 months by various professional building, plumbing and electrical companies. All of the craftsmen seemed to take an extra special pride in their work as this was such a unique project for all of them, with so many different problems and unforeseen requirements.The carriage is now ready for weekly hoiliday lettings and is ideally suited for families or mixed parties who either want to relax in its most private grounds, or explore one of England's and the World's unique historical sites. That of Ironbridge and the surrounding area, of which Coalport is included. It achieved a United Nation's World Heritage Site listing as the birth place of the Industrial Revolution.
