Lincolnshire Cottage in Doddington

The Stables

3 Bedrooms    1 Bathroom    Sleeps 6    Children Welcome    No Pets    No Smoking

Enjoy the seclusion of our comfortable and spacious stable cottage, set in an acre of private garden in the grounds of Doddington Hall, yet only 12 minutes drive from Lincoln and its historic cathedral, which can be seen from the village.

The Victorian Stables and Coach House, which contain many of the original features (though thankfully not the horses) have recently been completely redecorated throughout to a very high standard and offer comfortable accommodation for 4 adults and 2 children, in 2 double bedrooms, and one double bunk room. The double rooms can be configured as twins or doubles, and the bunks are full size 3ft wide. The converted tack room, complete with original panelling and saddle blocks and an extensive collections of books, offers a safe heaven to relax, or for children to watch TV or a video. The utility room offers plenty of space for coats and boots, the washer and dryer and a chest freezer, and leads to a separate downstairs loo. In addition to wood burning stoves, there is full oil fired central heating and Rayburn cooker, and electric hobs and mini oven.

Enjoy the seclusion of our garden, hidden in this feudal Lincolnshire village, or walk straight out into Lincolnshire farmland without having to cross a road; visit the stunning Grade I Elizabethan mansion house, Doddington Hall, and it's beautiful gardens (2 minutes walk); the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust's Whisby Nature Park (6 minutes drive); historic Lincoln (12 minutes drive); the charming market town of Newark (20 minutes drive) or the Lincolnshire Wolds and coast.Very convenient for Swinderby Antique Fair (15 minutes drive), Hemswell Antiques Market (20 minutes) and Horncastle (25 minutes) with its numerous antique shops.

This is the time to visit Lincolnshire, the home of Capt John Smith, who played such an important part is the the foundation of Jamestown, Virginia, USA, in 1607, and where better to stay than with the Macalpine-Lenys, who also have a home in Virginia. Whatever your tastes, you are assured of a warm welcome.
