This charming 300 year old Limestone cottage is situated just off the village green in the unspoilt medieval village of Castleton with its castle built in c1086 and located in the heart of the Peak District National Park.Accommodation Originally a bakery, Oatcake Cottage with its exposed beams and trusses sleeps 4, with 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom. Bathroom has shower over bath. On the ground floor there is a beamed lounge with original gritstone fireplace and 'coal-effect' stove, with TV/DVD/Video. Off the lounge is the dining room with payphone and the country kitchen with over, hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine/dryer and traditional Belfast sink.Outside Oatcake Cottage has a steeply terraced garden nestling into the cliffs below the castle. Unsuitable for toddlers. Seating on 2 tiers with stunning views of the High Peak Hills that surround the village.Locally, there is good walking, fossil finding, rock-climbing, hang-gliding. Castleton has 5 caves to explore - stalactites, stalagmites are impressive and 1 cave has a boat ride. Three excellent tea-shops and 6 excellent pub/restaurants are in walking distance. In December the village is illuminated with festive lights and trees. Castleton makes an excellent base for exploring the Peak Park and for visiting Chatsworth House and Gardens, Haddon Hall, Buxton with its Opera House and the market town of Bakewell.Oatcake Cottage is a cosy cottage where in the evening you can relax and listen to the chimes of St Edmund's (Norman church) clock at the end of the day.
