Located within the Brassington Conservation Area, Hillocks Barn is situated up Red Lion Hill in a quiet, secluded part of this historic lead-mining village. The village has two excellent pubs both serving a selection of beers and wines and fine food. Ye Olde Gate Inn, taking its name from the turnpike gate opposite, dates from 1616. Within a mile of the Peak District National Park and close to many famous tourist attractions the area offers excellent walking and cycling opportunities and a wide range of water sports at Carsington Water, a mile to the West. St James' Church, dating back to Norman times, stands out in the heart of the village. In addition, Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House are all within easy driving distance. Local caves are hidden in the dramatic Harborough rocks, half a mile to the East of the village, a popular venue for climbing enthusiasts. A comprehensive selection of guidebooks, maps and leaflets of interesting and entertaining places to visit is available for reading at your leisure.You enter the accommodation from the cobbled patio area to the front of the Barn into the beamed kitchen/dining area, which is well equipped with all the essentials you will require for you stay, including a fridge freezer, microwave, electric cooker and hob. A single step takes you up to the lounge, which features a full-beamed ceiling, picture window and decorative fireplace. In addition to the large colour tv and video recorder, there is a selection of videos and a CD player. The wooden stairs from the lounge lead to a spacious double bedroom with a colour television, a single bedroom and a bathroom with a bath, electric shower over, hand basin and toilet. A cot or Z bed for a small child is also available. The attractive polished wooden floorboards throughout these rooms add to the charm of this superbly converted barn.
