A ground floor barn conversion completed in the second half of 2005, to a really high standard, one of five award winning cottages, in a glorious location over looking dales and rolling countryside The Milking Parlour has two bedrooms, one double and one single, a decent sized shower room/wet room, which are both en-suite to both bedrooms - i.e. two doors into the shower room. The living area is extremely comfortable and and has as a focal point a sympathetic log effect stove (not the old fashioned type that were less sympathetic) All the owners cottages have always been graded 4 star (and under the old grading system 'Highly Commended') but each time they convert a cottage they aim for higher standards. So this time dishwasher, stone worktops, central heating, freeview sky satellite tv, to add to the specification of the other cottages all of which have stone sinks, solid wood kitchen units, halogen cookers, leather settees, tv, videos and dvds; and much more. As a result it is graded right at the top of four star. (It could not be considered for five star due to their being no bath, only what the owners believe to be a superior 'wet room' Upstairs is another letting unit but guests should have no need to worry about noise transmission, as the converson comfortably exceeded what are in any event very strict building control noise transmission requirements.) It is located just 15 yards from the other cottages and in a way this barn forms the final part of the courtyard. Adjacent to this apartment is a large grassed area (80 yards by about 30 yards) shared with the other cottages, with ample high quality outdoor seating arrangments. In the cottage there are seven highly organised information folders, partly written by the owners themselves who are lovers of the Peak. Those sections that contain commercially produced leaflets are set out in order of proximity to the cottages and most are within 30 minutes drive. Indeed we venture to suggest that there are more attractions within 30 minutes of our cottages, than anywhere else in Britain. Guests have heaped praise on this source of information which ensure that even those who have stayed with us numerous times still find plenty new to do. Events lists are supplied in advance between May and September. Housekeeping and attention to detail is regarded by the owners, who strive to encourage return visits, as being of paramount importance as is their concern is to ensure guests have an excellent holiday. There are two wild flowers meadows on the land, on which the cottages stand, which together with two hay fields are managed under a Coutryside Stewardship Scheme. One of the meadows borders a nature reserve leading after just over a mile to the Rive Dove (at Wolfscote Dale). One mile downstream is Dovedale. The cottages are located off a quiet country lane between the highly popular village of Hartington and its smaller, quieter neighbour, Biggin. Both villages have pubs serving full meals cafes and a church. There is also an excellent restaurant about a mile away. Biggin has a lovely Hall where excellent cream teas are sold. Numerous footpaths surround the land on which the cottages stand, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is less than 1 mile from us. Two further trails, (both of similar distance), are within 3 miles. These three tracks are ideal for family cycling, as is the network of quiet minor roads, which can be accessed at numerous points along the trails. The cottages are situated very much in the heart of the White Peak area of the Peak District. (The White Peak is the area of rolling countryside, dales, streams and rivers limestone villages and dry-stone walls, which give the area so much character, the Dark Peak is mainly moorland)Buxton , Matlock, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Leek and Chatsworth House are all about 11 miles away on the edge of the Peak District at different points on the compass, confirming the owners' claim to be very much in the heart of the White Peak area of the Peak District.
