These fabulous conversions from original farm buildings are in peaceful, high-lying Holestone Moor, a seeming away-from-it-all place, well away from main roads and yet not isolated. Many fascinating attractions can be found within a 10 mile radius. Matlock is the nearest town and most requirements can be bought there. 'The Barn' (ETC 5 stars) has an imposing living room and separate kitchen. The dining room seats 16 (many guests take both The Barn and The Stables together). The dining table has a removable top, under which is a full size, slate bed, free play pool table. All the rooms mentioned are accessible to wheelchair users, as is the downstairs twin and en-suite with wheel-in shower. For our less able guests we can supply a shower chair, toilet riser seat and tap turners. On the first floor are a further 4 en-suite bedrooms (2 with 3 single beds, 1 twin & 1 double). Both cottages are superbly equipped with electric cooker & hob, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. 'The Barn' also has a tumble drier, whilst the Stables has access to a tumble drier close by. 'The Stables' sleeps 4 (ETC 5 stars) in a double and a twin. The bathroom has a shower over the bath. There is an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area and the whole cottage is furnished with well chosen and good quality fabrics. The double bed has a truly unique feature; it is known as 'the cannonball bed'! Each cottage has a wood burning stove and constant oil central heating. Short breaks are available all year round. Linen, towels, electricity, central heating & logs are included in the cost. Outside are six acres of land to explore, including woodland walks, a wildlife pond, wildflower meadow and a paddock with picnic tables and barbecues. There's a games room with table tennis, pool table, table football and darts. There is also a play room for under 5's. Not suitable for pets. AccessibilityNeither of our cottages is currently graded for disabled guests, but both are accessible to some extent. The ground floor of The Barn is designed with wheelchair users in mind with full access to the lounge, kitchen, and dining room. The downstairs twin bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with wheel-in shower (and shower chair). Less mobile guests and wheelchair users can be dropped off outside the courtyard, for entrance to this cottage via a level path. The Stables is all on one level apart from 2 shallow steps up to the front door. The entrance is across a cobbled courtyard. We have a toilet riser, as well as tap turners available on request. |
