This charming cottage, with itsr wealth of exposed beams and timbers, has been sensitively converted and modernised to offer every convenience for the holidaymaker. The cottage enjoys beautiful views of Snowdonia, coastal glimpses and a lovely quiet position within the 240 acre Eisteddfa (country) Estate, with its fishing lakes. The property is approached by a private tree-lined drive and well away from roads. Eisteddfa Estate is steeped in history (See the history page) and has a former Prime Minister's daughter (Lloyd George's daughter Lady Carey-Evans) among its previous owners, her descendents still own and live on the estate. There is a fascinating museum nearby, with lovely walks, that tells Lloyd George's story. Enjoy the tranquillity and glorious panoramic views over the surrounding mountains of Snowdonia, the pleasant farmland of the estate and the glimpses of the coast at Criccieth. Although secluded and peaceful, the cottage is not isolated, being only 1.5 miles from the amenities and beaches of the lovely seaside resort of Criccieth. There are many other beautiful sandy beaches and well-known resorts on the Lleyn peninsula, within easy reach. You can play golf at Criccieth, where discounts are available, and on several other golf courses within 8 miles. The estate benefits from the newly developed lakes which offer coarse and trout fishing by the day for a reasonable charge. Tackle can be hired. There are lots of cycle tracks and paths to explore, including a newly completed route from Porthmadog to Barmouth and beyond. The nearest town, Criccieth, is located 1.5 miles away on the southern coast of the Lleyn Peninsula and has the best of both worlds, as far as the weather is concerned. The long arm of the Lleyn shelters it from the worst of the prevailing weather from the west; it also traps the warm waters of the Gulf Stream to create a climate completely different from that of the mountains inland.
Criccieth and the area surrounding it, is full of tourist attractions. On a clear day, and there are many of them at Criccieth, winter as well as summer, you can see St. David's Head in one direction, and St. Tudwal's island in the other - the whole sweep of the Cambrian Coast. Then, two miles down the road, is Llanystumdwy The remains of Criccieth Castle are partly of Welsh and partly of English construction, and date from the reign of Llewelyn the Great (1200 -1240), the entrance is opposite Castle Square. A cottage near the entrance has been converted to house an exhibition entitled "Castles of the Welsh Prince" - well worth a visit. If this whets the appetite for visits to other Welsh castles, there are a number of others within easy reach of Criccieth, including Harlech, a short journey by the Cambrian Coast Railway, and Caernarfon, an easy car ride. There are bus services to Caernarfon, Porthmadog and Pwllheli. The Stables - Sleeps 6 in 3 Bedrooms "The Stable", has been converted from a traditional Welsh stone farm building into a lovely cottage for six. The old stable block now provides a well equipped family holiday home. The Stable is an attractive stone building with a paved patio with table and chairs for outdoor meals and a safe garden for children at the rear. The conservatory is a lovely feature, and one which many visitors use to eat in so they can enjoy the wonderful views with their meals. Every convenience has been thought of to make for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. There is a table for four in the kitchen which is well equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The sitting room is a comfortable room with night storage heating. A large conservatory with dining facilities and views over the Eisteddfa Estate towards the coast with the estate's newly established fishing lake in the foreground
The well-equipped kitchen area with a breakfast table (seats 4), electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine and window looking over the patio and views. Also on the ground floor, up 2 steps is a bright bedroom that the children will love, with 3ft. pine bunk beds. This room has also two windows through which there are usually sheep and cattle to be seen, lots of birds and even rabbits. The pine-panelled bathroom is opposite this bedroom, and has an electric shower over the bath, pedestal basin and WC.
Also upstairs is the master double bedroom which has an en-suite shower, toilet and hand-basin. (both these bedrooms have exposed beams) Outside is a paved area with a table and chairs for sitting and reading, enjoying a barbecue or just soaking up the fabulous panoramic views and enjoying the garden. Behind the cottage is a safe lawned area for children to play and access to the car parking area General The Stables has been under our ownership since June 2002. There are many homely touches, the beds have lovely pine bases in the twin room and double room with quality mattresses, the bunk beds are also pine. We have put in a double glazing, replaced most of the white goods and carpets, re-furbished the bathroom and re-decorate regularly. Bed linen is provided. The Stables makes an ideal base from which to explore the Lleyn Peninsula, Snowdonia and North Wales and, in the pretty tranquil setting, is perfect for a relaxing break - even to sit and do nothing but enjoy the panoramic views.
