Caernarfon castle and the old town are included within the town walls. Hafod Aur and Ty Sidan are on the south side of the old High Street, between where Castle Street and Shirehall Street meet the High Street. Porth Yr Aur, the western portal (marked 3), is at the end of the street, and the Menai Straits can be seen through the arch from the front steps of both houses.There are two walking and cyclist paths newly opened from Caernarfon itself; one along the Menai Straits towards Y Felinheli eastwards and the other towards Bryncir westwards.(Bicycle hire is available in the town) There are also delightful strolls along the sunny promenade around the castle walls and over the little swing bridge to the far side of the river mouth as it flows into the Straits, and towards the children's play area and the golf course. Interesting sea birds abound here. The tourist information centre is on the corner of Castle Street, (marked 2) , nearly opposite the castle entrance. The right hand side shows the castle as viewed from the High Street along Palace Street. The old town is full of small shops, a great choice of different eating places: inns, restaurants and cafes, and the old covered market. There is also an outdoor market on the Maes on Mondays and Saturdays. Large supermarkets: Safeway, Tesco, Kwiksave, ( extra Sunday opening 10.am to 4pm) as well as other stores: Boots, Woolworth, Curry, Iceland, are to be found in Caernarfon.The town also has an indoor swimming pool with sauna, gym and a new indoor tennis courts, and a golf course. Caernarfon Castle itself is a world heritage site and the delightful old walled town is largely pedestrianised. Dinas Dinlle is the nearest sandy beach and there is a lovely little country road to it.
