The cottage is situated in Abbey Cwm Hir (abbey in the long valley), a picturesque village tucked away in the Radnorshire hills with character and history, including the ruins of a Cistercian abbey where it is believed the headless body of Prince Llewellyn (the last native Prince of Wales) is buried. The Cistercian monks founded the abbey in 1143 and always liked to build in secluded places thus the village sits hidden away from the outside world nestling amongst the tree-covered hills. Glyndwr's way national trail and national cycle route 25 pass through the village making it a perfect base for walking/cycling and exploring mid Wales and seeing nature at its best. The market town of Rhayader and the Elan Valley is 6.5 miles and the spa town of Llandrindod Wells is 9 miles. The coast is 40 miles. The cottage is positioned in the centre of the village opposite the church and next to the pub and has been recently converted (finished July 2003) from an old tailor's shop into holiday accommodation, incorporating and enhancing many of the original features including intricate beams and original flooring. The dining/lounge room has original fireplace with wood burning effect fire, comfortable lounge chairs, television, video, CD player, radio and dining area. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances including fridge, microwave, oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. To the back of the property there is a large yard across which is the village pub, ideal for a relaxing pint in a friendly atmosphere, and to the front a large garden, this area is totally enclosed with a stone wall making it safe for small children. The village also boasts a lovely church with beautiful stained glass windows and a mansion house formerly the seat for the squire of the village estate. We still also have a village shop and post office. This cottage is ideal for people who
