The Old Anchorage is a 400-year old traditional Scottish crofters cottage, and was gifted by the Duke of Hamilton to Captain Finlay Kerr, the great grandfather of the present owners, . The cottage is located on the seafront, in the center of the village of Lochranza, close to all the local shops and amenities. It has almost an acre of fenced land, overlooking the castle, the Kilbrannan Sound and Argyll. Around mid-summer, this location provides some of the most spectacular sunsets from the front of the cottage. The Old Anchorage was given, by the Duke, to Captain Finlay Kerr, the great grandfather of the present owners and has been tastefully modernized and extended over the last 150 years, in keeping with the original design. The low oak beamed ceilings and the original ingle nook fireplace, now a feature of the lounge, give the cottage character and charm. The two upstairs bedrooms feature sloping beamed ceilings and oriel windows, giving spectacular views across the loch. The gentle sounds of the sea create an ageless feeling that ensures a restful night. One room has two single beds with space for a cot; the other has a double and a single bed. There is a walk-in wardrobe on the landing between the two bedrooms On the ground floor, the lounge, one of the original two rooms in the house, is large yet cosy, retaining many of the traditional features, with windows to both the front and back of the cottage. A small library of books, board games and television provide entertainment for all tastes. The dining kitchen, overlooking the expansive lawn, is fully equipped with access to the back garden. The bathroom has both a bath and shower. Outside the kitchen door there is a barbecue facility, clothes drying area and ample car parking space. The garden is an ideal play area for children. The rear is mostly shrubbery and woodland. Please note owner lives in adjoining cottage.
