Ardilistry, is a simple house, as was its predecessor, but it looks and feels as if it has been there for a long time, lovingly lived in, as indeed many generations have lived in this location. We decided that it must be wheelchair accessible and added a glass room to catch the southern sun. Ardilistry Cottage sleeps four and is a Visit Scotland Five Star rated establishment, one of only two on Islay. One double bedroom, one twin bedroom, bathroom, open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room with open fire and south facing glass panelled sun lounge. Ardtalla Estate has been faced with the same problems as many Highland and Islands Estates, whose original viability as a profitable farming operation has been severely eroded over the last fifty years. We now have one farmer, one shepherd, and one working farmstead instead of the original six farms and a workforce of fourteen in the early 60s. Our policy has been to rehabilitate any obsolete buildings into holiday cottages that will give job opportunities to the Ileach and help attract tourists into the local economy. We decided to reconstruct Ardilistry using the original stone and second-hand slates to retain Ardilistry's original blend into its historic landscape. For More InformationVisit Property's Website |
