This traditional cottage is set on the sprawling Scoor estate in the beautiful southwest of the Ross of Mull. The cottage is the most secluded property on the estate and does not overlook any other dwelling. It lies in a peaceful location looking over the south coast to Colonsay and Jura. Nearby, there are beautiful white sands, hidden coves, wild shores and a ruined village from the Clearances to explore. Wildlife includes deer, wild goats, seals, golden eagles, sea eagles and buzzards and numerous species of birds not commonly seen on the mainland.
The cottage is over a hundred years old. The upper floor was added about 50 years ago and it was occupied by the Shepherd at Scoor estate until 35 years ago. The outer structure of the property was extensively renovated about 8 years ago and the property is very well insulated. There is electric night storage panel heating throughout. On the ground floor there is a porch, lounge with an open fire, a fully-equipped large kitchen with a dining area and a wood burning stove and a bathroom with bath. Thrre are three bedrooms upstairs, one with a double bedroom one with a single bed and one with two bunk beds and a single bed. Bed linen and tea towels are provided.
The closest village to Scoor is Bunessan approximately 3 miles away. It has two well stocked grocery stores, a post office, gift shop, popular pub, recommended restaurant/cafe, doctor's surgery and community hall (where travelling theatre shows etc are often staged). A little further along the road you will reach the village of Fionnphort with its cosy pub, village store and visitor centre. Here you can catch the ferry (year round) to the historical and famous island of Iona. Further afield it is possible to visit Ulva, Treshnish and Staffa, Duart and Torosay Castles, Tobermory and Dervaig. There are so many wonderful walks and wild places to visit all over the island, which can be comfortably circumnavigated in a day.
The pace of life on Mull is relaxed and stress-free with a genuine, friendly welcome from the local community. So if you are seeking good quality reasonably priced accommodation with a five star experience of the great outdoors, we look forward to welcoming you soon to Shepherd's Cottage.
