This is a new house, completed in 2001 on the site of an old crofter's cottage, which was last occupied in about 1950. We rebuilt the ruined dwelling, the steading and the dry-stane dyke which forms our front boundary. Our family and friends use it a lot and it is let at other times.
The Cottage has been designed to:-
-
Be useable by people of nearly all abilities. (I damaged myself rather badly in a plane crash some years ago and now use a wheelchair). There is level access into the house. The ground floor comprises a porch, kitchen, living room, bathroom and double bedroom. Upstairs are two twin bedrooms and a second bathroom. If any of your party has a significant disability please check with me that the house will suit his or her needs. Please also let me know if you will be taking any very small children up as there are some potential dangers you should be aware of. We have some equipment for babies/children/disabled or elderly people which is available by request.
-
Fit in with the other houses in Skerray. We are blessed with an absence of modern kit bungalows and wanted to build something looking like an ordinary croft house but with rather better amenities.
-
Make the most of the site and the views. We have located the house on the top part of the site, in sight of the sea. The dining area, off the kitchen, has 180 degree views up and down the glen.
