Valery and David offer a very warm welcome and something special with their two 'fairytale cottages'. Sleep secure with windows open to clear night air and the sound of the forest. Waken to an early sunrise and watch red squirrels and deer feeding all around. Walk out and explore networks of footpaths and tracks through heather and ancient pine forest. Come home to the elemental comfort of a log fire or the romance of a restored 'hanging lum' over a peat hearth and relax in timeless tranquillity. Built in 1870 and 1905, both cottages have been carefully modernised to be bright, spacious, warm and comfortable inside, well appointed and generously equipped, yet retaining their simple exteriors and unique ambience.
Surrounded by broad mountain ranges, natural pine forest, farmlands, rivers and lochs, Nethybridge lies within the Cairngorms National Park (deep in 'Monarch of the Glen' film country) an area of magnificent natural environments on a grand scale. With open roads and easy access to out-of-the-way places, the area is ideal for exploring off the beaten track, and offers tremendous scope for walking at all levels, bird-watching, fishing or simply for relaxing. We get less rain and fewer midges than most highland areas, and the long northern summer evenings are magical.
The area offers great opportunities for sport including skiing/boarding at Cairngorm and Lecht, summer and winter mountaineering, water-sports, horse riding and even gliding. You can enjoy heritage visits to folk museums and interpretive centres, highland estates, distilleries and art and craft galleries. You can have memorable wild-life experiences at two RSPB reserves, a reindeer herd, a highland wild-life park and on guided wildlife walks or by simply taking yourself out into the forest. At the right time of the year you can attend Highland Games, Sheep Dog trials and even Husky dog-sled races, or join in local ceilidhs with music, song and traditional dancing.
