Barn Cottage is a recently converted 18th century barn in a quiet private lane close to the market square of Stow-on-the-Wold. Its original use was as an ancilliary building supporting the Old Forge at the top of the lane, which manufactured ironwork and horseshoeing. Newly refurbished, decorated and equipped to 5-Star standard, Barn Cottage offers a comfortable, well-situated base from which to explore the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the North Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold is the highest of the Cotswold market towns and has many wonderful views. It is an unspoiled and charming small town once famous for its wool trade, but now better known for its antique shops, art galleries, book and craft shops. The mellow Cotswold stone buildings are a mix of 17th and 18th century origins, giving an atmosphere of a time and pace of life long past. For those who enjoy walking, there are numerous footpaths and bridleways from the town to explore. The attractions in the area include museums, galleries, historic houses, gardens, wild life parks and farm parks to mention just a few. The well known and beautiful Cotswold villages of Broadway, Chipping Campden and the Slaughters are nearby and the larger towns of Stratford, Cheltenham, Cirencester and Oxford, each offering attractions of their own such as theatres, festivals, horse racing and shopping, are all just a short drive away. The entrance to Barn Cottage is through an arched gate into the pretty courtyard garden. Access is through the conservatory, with steps down into the large kitchen / dining room. The kitchen is of good quality and is fully fitted with integrated appliances including fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine / dryer, gas hob, electric oven, microwave and radio / CD player. A housemaid's cupboard contains cleaning equipment, vacuum, iron and board, games, etc. The dining area is furnished with antique pine country furniture. There is also a cloakroom with wc and wash basin. Double doors lead to a spacious, light and airy sitting room with electric woodburner. Comfortable sofas, beautiful curtains and cushions and lamps to read by make this a very appealing room to spend time in. There is also a TV and DVD player. An easy, straight staircase to the first floor landing gives access to the two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The double room is restful and attractive, with a quality double bed, co-ordinated headboard and curtain fabric and antique pine furniture, as well as good lamps for reading. The twin room is very pretty and has a pair of single beds, again with co-ordinated headboard and curtain fabric and antique pine furniture. Both rooms have hairdryers. The upstairs bathroom provides a wc, wash basin, bath and separate shower cubicle with power shower. Ample storage and additional hanging space are provided in the landing cupboard. Outside is a secluded, well stocked, pretty courtyard with garden furniture. Stow-in-the-Wold offers a large selection of pubs and restaurants serving a wide variety of excellent food, all within easy walking distance of Barn Cottage, so you won't need to cook on holiday unless you want to.
