The Coachman’s Cottage is the granite coach house in the gardens of Hunter’s Lodge at Dartmeet. Like the main house, it is known to have been in existence in about 1800, though it is possibly older. It stands above the house, commanding a beautiful view of the meeting of the East and West Dart and the valley of the River Dart. The proprietors, Toni and John Evans, live on the premises at Hunter’s Lodge. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen/dining room downstairs, as well as a shower room. Upstairs we have retained as much as possible of the original habitation, including the pitch-pine panelling in the main bedroom. The accommodation consists of a sitting room which may be converted into a bedroom for one or two people; this room then leads through to the main bedroom which can be adapted to offer twin beds or a two metre wide double bed. There is a double futon and 2 single futons in the sitting room, as well as two more easy chairs in the main bedroom, which has the river view. Satellite TV is provided. The property is situated on the bank of the East Dart, overlooking both the old Clapper Bridge and the later stone bridge now in use. There is a pleasant garden available for guests’ use, although parents are responsible for the safety of their children. The guests have a small patio area for barbecues beside the cottage in a corner of the garden, with a view of the river valley and surrounding tors.Dartmeet is situated in the heart of the Dartmoor National Park. It offers a range of walks on open moorland, along the river, through broad-leafed woodland, coniferous plantations and over farmland, so there is a variety of bird and animal life, including the popular Dartmoor ponies. We provide walking routes, from 45 minutes to 6 hour walks, as well as other information on amenities, local activities and the wildlife and history of Dartmoor. The situation of the cottage i High Season Low Season Open All Year, Open at Christmas, Open at New Year Cottage For More InformationVisit Property's Website |
