Devon Homes for Rent

The Gallery, 5 Star, recently refurbished 1800 townhouse in the charming town of Dartmouth

3 Bedrooms    2 Bathrooms    Sleeps 6    Children Welcome    Some Pets Allowed    No Smoking
* This property is accessible to those with disabilities.

Dartmouth has become our second home and is a small town of great charm and character. It is situated in the valley of the River Dart, around an historic harbour, near the mouth of the River Dart. Two castles stand astride the entrance to the river, and the historic, Britannia Royal Naval College sits proudly above the town.

The harbour, important since Roman times, has been the launching point for many historical naval expeditions; - the Mayflower sailed from Bayards Cove with the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620 and more recently Dartmouth was a main part for invasion forces in 1944. Today the River Dart, still the focus of the Town, is a magnet for leisure sailors and is home to yachts and boats of all sizes, even the occasional visiting liner.

Dartmouth ’s historic charm has been carefully preserved, and many of the Town’s historic buildings retain their original form and character. Dartmouth is also renowned for its many specialist shops, including the galleries of a number of well-known artists, a great butchers, baker, deli and wine merchant, will provide for your requirements.

There are also many fine pubs and restaurants in the Town, which together cater for a wide variety of tastes, be it for the gourmet meal or take-away.

There are also many things to do, both in Dartmouth and the surrounding area - boating, fishing, walking, visiting beautiful N.T. properties, the lovely Elizabethan town of Totnes, the steam railway etc etc. The area offers enormous variety and is an excellent venue for family holidays, short stays or romantic breaks.

We have prepared details of many places of interest, and include our own personal recommendations. Our children (now 15, 11 & 4) have prepared a "kids guide" to the area including recommendations for beaches, spots for crab fishing, the best rock pools, pony trekking and of course, the best local pizza parlour!

The Gallery is a traditional Dartmouth house, rated 5 Star, and built we believe around 1800, probably as on annex to the Admiralty housing on Newcomen Road. The house, we have extensively remodelled and have introduced numerous modern features whilst at the same time retaining its character and charm. The Gallery has been awarded 5 stars by the English Tourist Council, its highest category, reflecting we believe the quality of the accommodation. It is only one of two in the town. It is however our second home, one we love visiting and we hope you find it equally welcoming.

Come to Dartmouth at any time of the year, enjoy its friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and relax. Park the car and find, as we do, that you do not have to use it for a week!

A retreat, wonderful!
