Torver lies about 2 miles south of Coniston village on the west side of Coniston Water. Popular as a base for both high and low level walking, there are pathways to The Old Man for a big climb, tracks across Torver Common and paths that lead down to the lake where you can explore and swim in summer. The village offers 2 pubs, the Wilson Arms and Church House, a fine traditional inn, some 600yrs old with flagged floors, low ceilings, roaring log fires and fine beers, amiably hosted by Landlord Patrick Hirst. This fine detached Victorian house lies a 2 minutes' walk north of the village, set in private grounds with views over pasture and the village church set in the distance. From the main hall you enter into the sitting room with large bay windows, comfortable furnishings and an open fire to add warmth and atmosphere in winter. The dining room is set with a fine table and leads into a conservatory. Off the dining room, via a small pool table room, is the well-equipped kitchen.Upstairs are 4 bedrooms, 3 double bedded and 1 twin, all with en suite shower rooms and there is a further master bathroom. The fifth bedroom is downstairs, off the sitting room with double bed and bathroom. Finally there is a downstairs WC off the main hall. The gardens and grounds surround the house with trees and shrubs, lawned areas and quiet shaded places to sit and relax or become an adventure space for small explorers. In summation, Brigg House will offer guests a perfect venue for lazy holidays, family gatherings in splendid surrounds and an ideal base to explore Lakeland.
